Transport Fever 3 has no multiplayer, co-op, or crossplay. Urban Games says so on the FAQ and on Steam. Here is what mods and shared saves do instead.
Transport Fever 3 Multiplayer: Can You Actually Play Together?
Quick answer: no. Transport Fever 3 shipped on September 29, 2026 with no multiplayer of any kind, and Urban Games has said so three separate times. The Steam store page lists seven categories and not one is a multiplayer tag. The official press page lists exactly three game modes: Campaign, Tycoon, Sandbox. There is no co-op, no competitive mode, no split screen, and no crossplay. What exists instead is a cross-platform mod browser, a manual share path for mods and saves on PC and Mac, and one open known issue about moving a save to a console.
- The official FAQ answer, verbatim: "The goal has been to make Transport Fever 3 the best single player experience possible. Until that has been accomplished, it would be the wrong time to shift focus and split resources in order to introduce multiplayer in either a co-operative or competitive fashion."
- Demand is unserved: 380 Steam discussion threads match the word "multiplayer" on a game with no multiplayer mode, and the thread "Will TF3 have Multiplayer?" has 213 comments. Community-observed; it may change with patches.

The Three Official Answers That Settle It
The question has been asked in public since before the game existed, and the publisher has answered in writing three times. The wording states a priority, not a promise about the future.
| Source | Date | What it says |
|---|---|---|
| Official FAQ, "Is there a multiplayer in Transport Fever 3?" | Live on launch day | Multiplayer would be the wrong time until the single-player game is done, co-operative or competitive |
| Steam thread "Will TF3 have Multiplayer?", marked answer by UG-Sam | August 29, 2025 | "that hasn't been the focus for this game as the timing isn't right. Our objective is to make the best single player game we can." |
| Comment under "Tycoon Gameplay Overview Revealed" by Sam | September 12, 2026 | "We have no plans to add multiplayer to Transport Fever 3." |

Read the first answer precisely rather than optimistically. "Until that has been accomplished" is a condition, not a schedule, and the second answer, written thirteen months before launch, already said the timing was not right. The game then launched on schedule with the same scope.
What the Steam Page Actually Lists
The store API is the fastest way to check. Seven categories come back, and not one is a multiplayer or co-op tag.
| Steam category | Listed for Transport Fever 3? |
|---|---|
| Single-player | Yes |
| Steam Achievements | Yes |
| Full controller support | Yes |
| DualShock Controller Support | Yes |
| DualSense Controller Support | Yes |
| Includes level editor | Yes |
| Family Sharing | Yes |
| Any multiplayer or co-op tag | No |

One detail catches people out. "No multiplayer" does not mean "no online". The official support page documents a known issue where the game "may be unable to communicate correctly with the game platform or an online service required by the selected feature", which is why main menu buttons can grey out. The connection exists. The session layer does not.
Crossplay deserves its own line, because the word shows up in searches next to the mod browser. Urban Games has never used it about playing together. Every official cross-platform claim covers mods: one mod browser, built with mod.io, giving Steam, EGS, GOG, PlayStation and Xbox players the same library.
Mods being available on PC, PS5 and Xbox at the same time means one content catalog, not one shared world. There is no join-a-friend button, no lobby, and no second player.
Can a Co-op Mod Fill the Gap?
Nothing on record says one exists, and the tooling points the wrong way.
The Transport Fever 2 mod stack, in the publisher's own framing, is a file delivery system. The Episode 5 dev blog credits mod.io as a partner solution "which has already proved itself for cross-platform mod-sharing for Transport Fever 2", then lists the toolset: in-game export of constructions, decorations and ground textures, script-based content reloaded while the game runs, analysis tools for inspecting simulation data, and a rebuilt Model Editor. Basic conversion of Transport Fever 2 models is supported "with just a few adjustments".
Official source: Dev Blog Episode 5: Highlights
Every item there produces or inspects content inside one running simulation. A co-op layer is a different thing: two simulations, one shared state, a lockstep or rollback authority, and a way for mods to mutate the world from a remote machine. The word multiplayer does not appear on that dev blog page, and whether the tools expose any networking interface is not yet confirmed.
Two obstacles are concrete. Mods are reviewed "for technical stability, visual quality, and content presentation standards" before they reach the hub, which is a content review, not a sign-off for a distributed system. And a co-op mod would inherit a launch-week performance problem, since the known issues page already lists dense networks as a CPU-side aggravator.
The support page warns that "old Transport Fever 2 workarounds involving manually copying libstdc++ libraries should not be used" on Transport Fever 3. Community-observed launch reports also say the classic Vulkan-to-OpenGL switch in settings.lua does not fix the launch crash here.
What the Curated Mods Program Promises, and Does Not Say
The Curated Mods Program is the official answer to "will the community build the feature you are missing", and it is worth reading for what it does not contain. To join, a modder must clear four published bars.
Official source: Curated Mods Program
| Entry requirement | Threshold | What it implies for players |
|---|---|---|
| Published mods for Transport Fever or similar titles | At least 10 | A track record, not a new project |
| Downloads across all published mods combined | At least 100,000 | Proven reach before any support |
| At least one outstanding published mod | Qualitative | Quality over quantity |
| Quality and user ratings of published mods | Consistently high | The mod must have survived real use |
Urban Games reserves the right to decline applications at any time without stating reasons, and a declined applicant may reapply after six months. More telling: the word multiplayer does not appear on the program page at all. It describes content, review standards and platform availability, nothing about shared play.
What the program does confirm is useful anyway. Modding is open to every player from release, every mod is free, and curated mods reach PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S alongside PC. Transport Fever 2 mods can be adapted even though they are not directly compatible.
Solo Substitutes for Shared Play
Multiplayer is gone, so the practical question is how to play with other people anyway. Each route below is graded by what the publisher documents.
| Route | Documented status | How it works | Catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manual mod and save distribution | Official | Communities distribute their own mods and saves for PC and Mac | No in-game transfer |
| Mod hub save upload and download | Official, partial | Savegames uploaded to the hub are not available on consoles yet | Known issue, status Open |
| PC to console save handoff | Broken at launch | "Compatibility will be added post-launch" | No date; the Xbox quota error also fires early, below 2GB |
| Copy the user data folder between PCs | Community-observed | Settings, then Advanced, then "Open User Data Folder" | That folder also holds settings.lua |
| Shared or co-operative saves | Not yet confirmed | No official statement found | Do not plan around it |
| Cloud sync between PC and Steam Deck | Not yet confirmed | No official statement found | Check your own Steam Cloud settings |
| Join a friend's world | Does not exist | Nothing to join | The forum thread is the closest to a lobby |
Official source: Transport Fever 3 Known Issues
Known issue one reads: "PC Savegames uploaded to the mod hub will not be available to download on consoles." The promised fix, "Compatibility will be added post-launch", is the only concrete post-launch commitment on the official site, and it carries no date. Console-to-console sharing is not addressed at all.
For two people on PC: build a scenario, open the user data folder from the in-game settings, copy the save out, and send it to your friend. Both players need the same mod set, because mods and saves travel together. Label each save per person before the campaign gets long.
If You Are Buying for Co-op Anyway
Buy the game for the simulation: the store page promises 275+ vehicles across more than 125 years of transport evolution, eight campaign missions, and a sandbox that unlocks the most tools. The FAQ quotes a different pair of numbers, more than 300 vehicles and 120+ years, and the publisher has never reconciled them, so treat either as a floor. The system requirements breakdown tells you whether it runs on your hardware. The closest official substitute for shared play is a scenario handed over as a save, which is not the same as playing together.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you play Transport Fever 3 with friends online?
No. The official FAQ says introducing multiplayer "in either a co-operative or competitive fashion" would be the wrong time until the single-player game is finished, and Sam wrote on September 12, 2026 that there are no plans to add it at all.
Is there a co-op mod or a split-screen mod for Transport Fever 3?
Nothing on record. The mod browser distributes content, not sessions, and the official modding documentation covers model conversion, in-game export, script reloads and analysis tools. No multiplayer mod is documented by the publisher, so treat the idea as unverified rather than upcoming.
Does Transport Fever 3 have crossplay between PC and console?
No, and the word is never used that way officially. One mod browser built with mod.io gives Steam, EGS, GOG, PlayStation and Xbox players the same library. That is a shared catalog, not shared play, and there is no session to join on any platform.
Can I transfer my save from PC to PlayStation or Xbox?
Not at launch. The known issues page states that PC savegames uploaded to the mod hub will not be available to download on consoles, with the note that "Compatibility will be added post-launch" and no date attached. Between two PCs, copying the save out of the user data folder works as a manual process.
The Steam page says "Includes level editor". Can we play together on a custom map?
It means a map editor exists, which is useful for handing scenarios to other players. It does not mean simultaneous editing, and nothing official addresses sharing a save in progress.
Will Urban Games add multiplayer in a later patch?
Unknown. The most recent developer statement says there are no plans, and "until that has been accomplished" describes a priority rather than a schedule. The 213-comment thread is demand, not a roadmap.
